Celebrating Girls' Menarche and Educating Families

Menarche, your daughter’s first bleed, marks a powerful threshold in her life. A moment where she begins her journey into womanhood. Typically occurring between the ages of 8-15, its timing can vary depending on genetics and lifestyle. Honouring this significant transition can have a lasting impact on a young woman, helping her embrace her body with pride, knowledge, and strength during a time of emotional, physical, and social change.

This workshop offers the tools to shift the narrative for the next generation so they no longer experience fear or shame around this natural milestone. Once a deeply revered tradition, this sacred rite of passage has been largely forgotten in the modern world. Together, we can revive the profound wisdom and meaning that menarche holds, celebrating it as a moment of empowerment and connection.

What we will explore together

Morning session (Mothers): 9:00am – 12:00pm
A dedicated space for mothers to deepen their understanding, reflect on their own experiences, and prepare to guide their daughters with clarity and confidence.

  • Understanding the physiology of menstruation and the hormones involved
  • Naturopathic approaches and nutrition to support young women as their bodies and hormones mature
  • Exploring your own story and relationship to your cycle
  • Shamanic perspectives on the cyclical nature of women and how this shapes our energy, emotions, and life phases
  • Creating a grounded, informed and intentional way to support your daughter

Afternoon session (Daughters): 1:00pm – 3:00pm
A gentle, age-appropriate space for girls to learn, feel safe, and begin to understand their bodies in a positive and empowering way.

  • Simple, empowering understanding of their changing bodies and first cycles
  • Introducing the menstrual cycle as something natural, wise, and supportive
  • Building confidence and comfort around this new phase of life
  • Learning about menstrual products
  • Connection through sharing, reflection, and being held in a safe circle

Closing Mother–Daughter Circle: 3:00pm – 4:00pm
A beautiful coming together to honour this transition

  • Opportunity for mothers to offer a blessing
  • Marking this moment as a meaningful rite of passage

Throughout the day

  • We will sit in circle to connect, share, and experience being seen, heard, and held
  • Space for questions and personal reflection
  • Time for Q&A so you can leave feeling informed and supported

Your facilitator Anna-Maria

As a mother of four daughters (one whose menarche has already been honoured, with three still to come) as well as a naturopath and doula, I feel deeply passionate about supporting young women and their families through this pivotal stage of life.

I see firsthand how understanding our bodies, our hormones, and the cyclical nature of womanhood - when supported by proper nourishment -can transform menarche into a positive and empowering experience.

By fostering this awareness, we help our daughters develop a deep respect for their bodies and a sense of pride in who they are becoming. As informed parents, we can offer the support, guidance, and love they need - creating a safe and nurturing foundation as they step into this new phase of life.
